yep…some merit in what you say Mr Summit. The extreme views can work in our favour. Eg…….as I mentioned in my open letter…..I thanked Peter……as it has prompted some ministers to march with Freedom 2 b[e] to show not only their support but their disgust that someone who calls themselves a christian could say such vile untrue things.

The way we respond to such extremism is important I believe. Unfortunately some in our community revert to the same stupidity, name calling and ignorance as those who oppose our push for equality and acceptance. Responding in the same manner or energy actually only entrenches and reinforces people ignorance about homosexuality and the gay community.

….and of course we need to remember that Peter Maddens comments don’t actually convert anyone.

Hi Mr Summit

You said:

I know one person used a rally by the Westboro Baptist Church to raise money that was then given to gay affirming charities in Fred Phelp’s name. Thus meaning that he got all the thank you messages.

hehe. Imagine the look on Fred Phelp’s face when those thank yous came in! 😀

Blessings,

Ann Maree

Hi avb

I voted. I also listened to your interview. I thought that Peter changed his tune as a way to save more votes. He seemed to move from the idea of shutting down mardi gras completely to moving it to a stadium!! His mention of “homosexual anarchy” in relation to MG was quite bizarre too.

I wonder whether he’s projecting his own history of sexual molestation and addiction onto the LGBT community and confusing the two?

I thought you spoke very well, avb, and the interviewer did a good job too. Peter, on the other hand, didn’t speak at all well. It seemed to me that the goal posts kept moving about in terms of where he stood… Anyway, I hope he gets some help for his own issues which have nothing to do with MG or LGBT.

Blessings,

Ann Maree

Hi avb

I’ve moved your post from the telling our stories section to keep with the other posts on the topic and also so others see it.

Hi Ann Maree,

Yes that’s a very good point, I was thinking the same thing listening to the radio interview. He was confusing his own “sexual addiction” with his perception of the gay community.

Psychological projection is a form of defense mechanism in which someone attributes thoughts, feelings, and ideas which are perceived as undesirable to someone else. For example, someone who harbors racist ideas while believing that racism is socially undesirable might come to believe that a friend is racist, projecting his or her racism onto the other person. Projection may manifest in all kinds of ways, and while it may be a defense mechanism, it can also be very destructive.

The concept of psychological projection was developed by Dr. Sigmund Freud, a noted figure in the field of psychology. Dr. Freud believed that people used psychological projection to reduce their own stress or feelings of guilt, thus protecting themselves psychologically. This psychological phenomenon is sometimes referred to as “Freudian projection” in reference to Dr. Freud’s work in the field.

It was a really good interview AVB. 🙂 Peter Madden has simply backtracked on his original statements, and has gone from a point of simply expressing ‘ignorance’ and ‘inciting’ a protest (i.e. prayer rally) to now ‘lacking any credibility’ or ‘consistency’ in his message.

My mum was listening to the interview as well, and she commented ‘how would Peter Madden feel if one of his kids or grandkids came to him and told him that they were gay? Would he change his viewpoint and support / accept his child / grandchild or simply maintain his ignorant and intolerant view?’

Got to love it when your Mum is so supportive!

thanks…..yes Peter has changed and does change his tune….especially when challenged……he will make a fine politician….hehe.

Regarding the false statements and exaggerations Peter has made about MG and LGBT……if we don’t challenge the validity or what he is saying then i guess we are saying he is telling the truth.

Bless your Mum

BTW…..I heard this morning during our freedom 2 b[e] board meeting that the interview was also aired on JOYFM.
