BTW…..I’ve jsut finished ‘the gay agenda’…….unbelieveable that someone could be so far paranoid and off the track and yet claims to have a church that welcomes homosexuals for healing.

Can Homosexuality Be Healed?

Macnutt Francis.

Paperback

Koorong’s Price: $12.95

Description

To someone struggling with homosexuality, churches can present a confusing message. Some insist that a repentant homosexual renounce all ties to the homosexual lifestyle and live out his or her days in celibacy. Others believe that since no one chooses to be homosexual, the only compassionate solution is complete acceptance. Neither viewpoint takes into account all aspects of the issue. Is there another option that incorporates not only the traditional position that homosexual acts are sinful but also the fundamental reality of every person’s need for love and acceptance?

Over the years, Francis MacNutt has seen phenomenal results in the area of healing for homosexuals. Through prayer, those same-sex desires can be changed. . . healed. Gays or lesbians actually become heterosexual. Here Dr. MacNutt shares real-life examples, compassionate understanding of the issues and practical advice for anyone seeking freedom from homosexuality, as well as for those seeking help for gay friends or family.

– Publisher.

Publisher Descriptions

A compassionate, biblical approach for homosexuals and those who care. Well-known healing minister looks beyond misperceptions to show how dramatic change happens through prayer!

[Publisher]

Too often, especially in the church, the subject of homosexuality causes deep misunderstanding and painful rifts. Is it really possible to believe that homosexuals did not choose that lifestyle, and yet maintain biblically that the behavior is sinful? Yes, says author Francis MacNutt, and the prayerful result leads to a new possibility: Jesus Christ can transform the homosexual’s orient-ation so that he or she can actually become heterosexual. The striking clarity and practicality of this book will guide the compassionate reader who feels intuitively (and biblically) that homosexuality is wrong but fears being labeled ignorant or “homophobic.” And homosexuals who want to change will find that specific prayer brings extraordinary results.

Homosexuality: A Freedom Too Far

Socarides Charles.

Hardback

Koorong’s Price: $65.00

Publisher Descriptions

In a highly readable dialogue, this world-renowned psychoanalyst counters the conventional wisdom in America — that gays are “born that way” — and he shows, through case studies, how they can change with the help of therapies that get them to the roots of a disorder that began with abuse and neglect in early childhood, generally before the age of three. On the strength of his 40 years experience in the field, he dares to describe his mounting concern over same-sex, sex and AIDS, the sexual revolution, gay psychiatrists, the seduction of the innocent in our nation’s classrooms, the gay and lesbian takeover in academe, gays in the military, and the gay rights crusade for something he says is a freedom too far. “Homosexuality cannot make a society, nor keep one going for very long.” “The best book ever on homosexuality. In a class by itself. Easy-to-read. A certain best seller.”–Rabbi Samuel Dresner, Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Index included. New Testament And Homosexuality, The

Scroggs Robin.

Paperback

Koorong’s Price: $26.95

Publisher Descriptions

Advisory: Some of the views put forth in this book challenge the traditionally accepted teachings on the issue of homosexuality and the Christian faith. In this book, Scroggs argues that, based on the nature of homosexual relationships in New Testament times, the New Testament has nothing to say about modern homosexuality. The thesis is that, because the majority of homosexual relations took place in a degrading, adult-child situation in ancient times, the authors of Scipture had that practice in mind, not the mutual, adult-adult relationships of today.

How can we answer claims that the Bible does not prohibit committed homosexual relationships? Or that science proves that homosexuality is genetic, not a chosen lifestyle? Welch supplies us with timely biblical and biological insight into homosexuality. Just as importantly, he calls us to examine our attitudes in order to minister to homosexuals truthfully, compassionately, humbly, and persuasively.

FYI……..just send this email below to the GM of Koorong for the second time…….will let you all know of the response ……if any and what the next steps will be.

Dear Paul

I was thrilled to hear that Koorong was selling my book online…….and was hoping that it might even make it to the shelves and other bookstores. I’ve been directing people to your site to purchase.

As you’ll see from readers comments below, my autobiography has been valuable to a wide range of people. Young, old, parents, gay and straight Christians and also others who have left the church. I’ve been receiving a steady stream of emails since the original edition came out 3 years ago…….all saying the same thing. Surprisingly I have only received less than 10 negative emails. I know that my story has literally saved a number of people from suicide. So as it has been such a positive influence I wondered why you had withdrawn it from sale. I am aware this issue is a controversial one but from what I’ve seen of your current selection on the topic your range is a limited in perspective and also questionable from a professional mental health position. I’ve attached some endorsements of my work from academics and social educators that might help.

I am happy to discuss this further ….…..and look forward to hearing from you.

Hey there is this book that I found in Borders… its not in Koorong.

Boswell, John (1980) Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality – Gay People in Western Europe from the Beginning of the Christian Era to the Fourtheenth Century.

I will read this book and make comment on it and ask Koorong to include it if it is a sound book.

Anyone read it?

Craig.

I have read the book, it was one of the first on the topic I read (not one of my best ideas since Anthony is right it’s pretty heavy going). He has some…colourful…ideas in my opinion. The main point to remember is that he claims to be a historian. You can get distracted by all the info about the chruch (esepically the catholic chruch), the biased nature of the Jesuit’s and other bits and peices and loose sight of his arguments in relation to homosexuality. From memory I think he claims that Jesus and John and David and Jonathon were gay, his evidence for this is pretty dodgey and many conservative reviewers even go are far as saying is made up and fabricated… He is also a believer of the”what is natural for me” take, which is not particuarly historcal at all. Boswell renders para physin (against nature from Romans 1) as “beyond nature”. He writes that the phrase has nothing to do with natural law, since this concept did not exist until many years after Paul. Nature refers to the personal nature of the pagans discussed.

I don’t know enough about history to have an opinion on its authenticity but its a good idea to be aware of these things before you start reading. Can I suggest that if you are going to get into some heavey reading that you also get a hold of “Homosexuality: Contemporary Claims Examined in the Light of the Bible and other Literature”. It’s not a book that is likely to glorify your stance but it’s worth the read. It’s difficult to even pick some of the things that may be dodgey with Boswell because the book is so academic and if you are anything like me unless you take notes you forget the first few chapters by the time you finnish it. De Young in the book mentioned above gives a remarkably objective (as objecticve as we can be) account of the topic from a conservative viewpoint at leaves all the homophobia, sterotyping and generalisations at the door. It’s also set out well, which makes it easy to follow as opposed to Boswell’s book that tends to jump all over the place. Anyway happy reading. 🙂

Here’s what I wrote to Koorong and lets hope we get some response… hmmm. I didn’t get any response before. I put a prayer over this and hopefully this touches Paul’s heart.

Dear Paul,

I’m a long time shopper of Koorong books in both Penrith and Ryde – if I can’t get there my friends in the area will get it for me. I have always believed your shop was resourcesful in the range of books,CD/DVD and electronic resources. I saw a few books on homosexuality which raised some concerns… I glimp through these books and my impressions were not positive. Paul, alot of these books paints a very disturbed mentality on homosexuality and present a rather warped view. These are written by people who have never experienced what it is like to be gay and I know you would be very mindful on the damage it can caused someone who thinks they are gay. These kind of books in the hands of the unguided ones is equivalent to holding a pornographic books which can bring about mental disturbances and without any real guideances, because if Homosexuality was such an awful thing who would be game to tell anyone else. I would hate to think a person committed sucide only to find out that they had some confusion about their sexuality and were not infact homosexual. Paul, when people dream of having sex with the person they adore or wishes to become one with them who happens to be of the same sex… these dreams may erotic but on a deeper level it is symbolic and does not make a person gay. Upon reading some of the books might just cause them more confusion. There was one book I saw in Penrith and I thought it was a good book because the strength of the book was about loving the person no matter what their sexual persuasion is… it targets their own attitudes towards those who identify as having homosexual orientation. I didn’t get the chance to read it more and I already had books I wanted to purchase. I promise to drop by and get the book and do a proper review of the book and let you know if this is a good book.

There was a book called “A Life of Unlearning” by Anthony V Brown. I actually borrowed the book of a friend who purchased it from the Koorong – it was done online as these books were not on the shelves at the time. It was one of those books one could not put down. It was written by a person seeking God in all these things that were happening, it exposed some of the ex-gay camps for what they are – its factual – everyone knows about it. And more importantly it is a book about a life where views of homosexuality was construded wrongfully and the entrapment that some of us go through as we juggle Christianity with our sexual orientation. Reading towards the end of the book I felt like I was able to reconcile my differences. I love the Lord with all my heart and my prayers were always about being healed of homosexual feelings. I’m profoundly Deaf myself and I tried to make a deal with God that if he gave me a choice of being healed of my deafness or my homosexuality. God knew that I would choose to be healed from homosexuality… and I remember one morning I was quiet… I was really dissapointed… God’s gentle prompting lead to me asking if He did love me at all… after what Jesus did for us, it was indeed a horrible thing to say to God. I asked why wouldn’t he heal me from my so called “unatural” acts and the response I got was something I never expected to hear or recieve. He had asked why couldn’t I accept myself as He loved me. I began to understand that my homosexuality is not a big issue, God was more intersted in the relationship we have. I think it is important to remember that sometimes we will never really understand why we are what we are, we just know what we are and we are not perverted evil people. We are one of God’s children and we needs to be portrayed in that knowledge that we are brothers and sisters. The old belief of Gay men being phedophiles is not accurate. My training in “responding to sexual assault” provided statistical figures which were alarming that 99% of male sexual acitivty on young boys were hetrosexual men, most were married and did not identify themselves as Gay.

Paul, the attitude towards people who are of homosexual orientation within the Christian community has made life very difficult for most of us. I think the bible provided severe warnings about turning a brother/sister away from God. I know I am a Christian and I have been for more than 21 years. I have learnt that I can never get away from God. When I first became a Christian I thought I was cured from homosexuality and that I was free. This only lasted less than a year because I was just so newly born again, and the strenght of the Holy Spirit in my life was so strong and I recieved so many healing of the emotions as I grew up with a disadvantaged background. I felt myself becoming whole again, I no longer drifted off into fantasy land because I was bored, and it was safer in my dream world than to face reality. I soon realised that I was never healed of my homosexuality as I was also never healed of my deafness.

A book like “A Life of Unlearning” helps so many to come to understand issues and for those of us who have a homosexual orientation, it bridges a way back to God and gives us a reason to hope. I realised that all the condemnation were from human, God never condemn me. I know and I have met people who were fully inspired by God and they accepted me for what I was, but sadly the problems I face are people who are critical of those who’s orientation is that of a homosexual. Some of those have no prooblem of defying the word of God and denounce us infront of everyone and ask us to leave the church. These are people that I pray for because not only do they block people from knowing God, they also hurt many people who are friends of those and force them to choose between their conscience and following the leaders directions.

Paul if you are going to promote books which are damaging and carries the wrong spirit. You might want to balance it out with “A Life of Unlearning” to enable a fair distribution of persceptions about homosexuality. A good bookshop will encourage people to think about their attitude towards those who are experiencing a lot of difficulties and challenge perceptions about any particular topic. Please read the book “A Life of Unlearning” to discover why this is a book that has a very positive outcome.

There is one more thing, as your brother in Christ, you can choose to ignore this e-mail but that will never release you from your obligation as a brother in Christ because I know God will hold you to that fact when all our times are up and we face before God. We will be brought to account for all things great and small. I think that’s where the bible is very clear about it.

This e-mail is not an intention to attack your business, a good bookstore would only sell book that enhances God’s perspective and have a very wholesome approach to hearling, and the ministry of Christ is being expanded. If the books we read are written in a negative way, if it promotes hatred and creates an “us” and “them” attitude, according to the bible you will be accountable for encouraging a wrongful attitude and beliefs that leads others astray. Most of your books and CD are uplifting and encourages us to want to grow and develop deeper and meaningful relationship with God.

I do look forward to hearing from you with regards to some of the concerns I have raised in this email.

Yours in Christ.
