I wonder if you were aware of the number of ex-gay ministries in Australia? They exist despite the position statement of the Australian Psychological Society on reparative therapies.

Thanks for the list!

The info for Exodus Melbourne is way our of date. Deb and Alan had a disagreement with Exodus Int about ex-gay stuff many years ago and started a different organisation called Purple Heart that focussed on support rather than change. Fairly certain that you’ll find the Hirsch’s are not ex-gay advocates.

Hope that helps!

Hey Ben……I think the PFOX list is grossly out of date. I checked it out some years back now. Can you check when the page was created or updated……any geeks out there who know how to do that.

Most of the organisations listed in Qld are either non existent of are doing nothing. I believe the Adelaide contact is the same.

Maybe we could ask here which ones people know are still active…..or any others we know of.

The Hillsong contact is a reflection of how out of date the list is.

I just recieved an email from a lesbian whose parents are a part of a PFOX type group in Qld and in it is a list of groups active in Australia……when I get a chance….I’ll post it here.

Oooops…..just realised your post was past and present.. lets leave the past out of it. The death of those organisations is wonderful……no need to resurrect them I reckon.

We can rejoice that probably about half of this list no longer exists.

this post has been edited to remove ex-gay ministries that no longer exist in Australia. Thank God and they are no longer leading people down years of fruitless attempts to change peoples sexual orientation (SSA same sex attraction as they call it)

You will find lots of groups listed on the PFOX site…..but they are dead or of no consequence..There outdated list is as outdated as there message.

Myself, Ben and others have publicly told our stories of how traumatic and damaging it was to try to turn from gay to straight…..and how much healthier it is psychologically and spiritually to love and accept yourself.

Telling the truth is having an impact. http://gayambassador.blogspot.com/2010/07/is-my-strategy-working.html

Have you noticed that there are so few Australian testimonials of ‘change’ on the internet……..and yet so many stories of resolution of sexuality and faith.

Finally the reality is hitting home.

If you have been through and ex-gay program but finally accepted you are gay. …..don’t be silent…..tell your story.

To be silent means you are contributing to others wasting years of their lives in self hatred and loathing.

Even former ex-gay leaders say dont waste your time http://gayambassador.blogspot.com/2007/08/five-of-australias-ex-gay-leaders.html
