Hi All. Anybody have any recommendations on what are good books to read with regards to Being gay and being christian? I want to collect a few and read as much as I can. I am someone who struggles on a daily basis with reconciling my sexuality with my faith. I want to get to a point of permanent peace, not just momentary peace – is there such thing? LOL. I just would like to know about any great reads out there for people who have gone through similar things. also, any books on marriage or having children in a gay relationship.

Thanks and blessings to all. 😉

Hi kachezva

Have you read the articles in our resource section? There’s a link for one by Keith Dyer and another for Nathan Nettleton. Both are lengthy and theoretical, and involve looking at the scriptures as objectively as possible in re to homosexuality.. so it depends if you like that sort of thing or not.

Blessings,

Yep, read them and they are great! Looking for some books though – heard about Stranger at the Gate and a life of unlearning, also Bulletproof faith and Gifted by Otherness… Anybody read these?

LOL – I’ve read A Life of Unlearning abount eight hundred times (okay well maybe not that many but it feels like it) and strongly recommend it. http://www.anthonyvennbrown.com

Another I like is Say It Out Loud by Adam Sutton it’s not about Christianity but it’s an inspiring read about “gay struggles”.

Yay Sandy! Thanks for those suggestions. 🙂

kachezva, I’m still thinking about your request for books and am racking my brains for you.. Unfortunately the 2 books I purchased some years ago are not what I’d recommend. They are so theoretical and dry that not even I could stomach them and so they remain only party read. :~

Perhaps check out these sites which were recommended recently by Lyfe. They may have some recommendations (or help prepare you for having children with your partner).

It would be great if others here can suggest good books. I’d like to know too!

I can recommend two very good books on the topic.

Bullet Proof Faith by Candace Chellew Hodge

http://www.amazon.com/Bulletproof-Faith-Spiritual-Survival-Christians/dp/0470279281/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277475328&sr=1-1

and

Calling the Rainbow Nation Homeby ET Sundby.

http://www.amazon.com/Calling-Rainbow-Nation-Home-Affirmation/dp/0595336299

Both of these books are written by Christian women who are also lesbian and I found them very helpful.

Also, take a look on those Amazon pages at the books listed under “Customers who bought this book, also bought…”

There are some excellent books out there on this topic!

If you want to buy these or any other books, I recommend getting them from http://thebookdepository.co.uk as that site offers free shipping worldwide so all you’re paying is the price of the book.

While not strictly a LGBT book, I’m currently reading The Element by Dr Ken Robinson.

He talks about finding your passion in life, and cites some examples of famous people who have discovered their passion, and are now “in their element”.

He argues the need for a Paradigm Shift in our thinking … not just change, but a fundamental transformation in the way we engage with people and our world …

Very enlightening reading 🙂
