In recent years, coverage of the LGBTI community in media has become more positive, but this has not always been the case. There is a constant battle to portray our culture accurately, but instead the image has often been negative or full of tired stereotypes.
There have also been many milestones in the way LGBTI people appear in media, from coverage of the Stonewall riots, to the book “Vice Versa” to Ellen Degeneres coming out and the increasing acceptance of gay and lesbian characters in prime time TV shows and major films. But has it helped or hindered?
Join us at the next freedom2b Sydney meeting as we explore the way we are portrayed in the media. Does the way LGBTI people come across in film and television make you feel better about yourself? Are there parts of our culture they are still ignorant of?
Bound to be a great night of discussion, and we look forward to seeing you there.
