The struggle for bringing about equal human rights for everybody is a difficult one, but one that has come a long way for most in our community. For those of us who are Intersex, however, the struggle in discovering identity, along with finding understanding from those around, can be just that much harder.
In September, we are pleased to welcome along special guest Gina Wilson, president of the Organisation of Intersex International Australia (OII). Recently nominated for the Community Hero Award, Gina has been a long-time activist for Intersex rights and will be coming along to talk about the challenges faced by the Intersex community as well as the ones she has faced in her own life.
Gina survived significant childhood abuse, living androgynously and isolated for most of her life until she undertook a course of abuse recovery. Her recovery from the abuse she suffered is her greatest achievement.
Gina has a degree in aeronautical engineering and another in electronics, having spent a good deal of her life restoring and flying old aircraft, along with extending the life of ex-military jets. She is now retired and devotes much of her time to writing, literature and the visual arts and spending time with her amazing life partner.
She is also still active with intersex groups, child abuse survivor and child abuse recovery groups, suicide and mental illness awareness and support groups.
Bound to be an amazing night, all are welcome and please invite as many guests as you can.
