‘Coming out of the closet’ isn’t just difficult for the person doing so – it also impacts the lives of those around them. At freedom2b we value our straight friends and supporters, and understand some of the issues they face when their friends or family identify as LGBTI. Below are some other Australian groups which are there for support.
- PFLAG Australia – pflagaustralia.org.au
Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays is a well known organisation with many international subgroups. Their Australian group is active in all states, with monthly support meetings, newsletters, and plenty of resources on offer.
- GAMMA – gamma.org.au
Gay and Married Mens Association is a NSW group that supports gay men who are or were married. Meetings are held twice a month, and feature advise on many aspects around marriage, families, and the issues faced by all sides.
- Straight Spouse Network Australia – ssnaustralia.wordpress.com
The Straight Spouse Network Australia is a peer support group where people can share their journeys when dealing with their spouse who has come out as gay, lesbian or bisexual.
- Women Partners of Bisexual Men – womenpartners.org.au
Women Partners of Bisexual Men is a government-funded NSW service for women whose male partners are sexually attracted to other men. It offers workshops and counselling services free of charge
- Gay Dads Australia – gaydadsaustralia.com.au
Gay Dads Australia is a support network for gay men who wish to be or are already parents. They have state groups across the country, with many resources both for parents and children.

The US-based Straight Spouse Network has been supporting straight spouses in mixed-orientation marriages since 1986, with over 50 individual support groups currently active.
