Visit to Perth of Anthony Venn Brown
Anthony Venn-Brown was a leader in the Assemblies of God and a popular preacher in the mega churches of Australia. After 22 years of attempting to change his sexuality, he was forced to face reality- he was gay. After his resignation from ministry he struggled to come to terms with the loss of friends, faith and purpose. Anthony is now a respected community leader and dedicated ambassador for the LGBT community, promoting respectful dialogue, and assisting people to come to resolve the perceived conflict between their faith and their sexuality. His award winning biography, A Life of Unlearning, is now in its second reprint, and Anthony has been twice listed amongst the 25 most influential Gay and Lesbian Austalians. In October Uniting Friends are hosting Anthony on a visit to Perth where he will speak at two events. Training Workshop- Walking Between Two Worlds. Speaker- Anthony Venn Brown
LGBT people of faith have specific needs that have not always been identified or catered for. They experience the usual issues of resolving sexuality and gender identity, coming out and finding thier place in the community, but can do so with a particular intensity. In order to work effectively with these target groups, it’s important for community workers and service providers to be aware of thier particular issues. This practical workshop is highly relevant to LGBT community workers, social workers, mental health professionals, school counsellors and ministers.
