Hi Ben

You did such an excellent job. 🙂 I'm so proud of you, Sam and your beautiful parents. 🙂

I agree with Sarab that it was very moving and there was a message of hope. You, Sam and your parents came across as incredibly loving, sound and of good character – all things that those who are blessed to know you, know you to be. These qualities were strongly evident – that spoke volumes to me and I'm it sure would have spoken volumes to others too. When your mother said she found it hard to forgive herself for not realising earlier what you had been through, that also spoke strongly of a parent's love and compassion and I'm sure that would have touched many. It brought it back to basics – LOVE – which is what life and faith need to be about. In addition, your Mum's comment further highlighted to me the need for early awareness and intervention in terms of preventing suicide and unnecessary suffering. Your own grief was also evident and important for people to see this and hear about the devastating impact the ex gay program had on you. And then the fact that you voiced your strong faith and showed your commitment to that and to Sam was also very powerful. I'm sure that will bring support to those who need it and I believe it will gently help some Christians who have not been sure about homosexuality to consider it in a more positive light. I think it will send a message that challenges people who might have previously thought that faith and homosexuality could not be integrated. It might just be a catalyst for them to consider that being gay and Christian is not only possible but that there are normal people such as yourself and Sam who are both gay and great examples of being a Christian. It might also challenge others about the very notion of what it means to be a Christian. 🙂 This is all fantastic stuff and I'm guessing your short segment has achieved more than you might have hoped. 🙂 Again – well done and congratulations to The Project. 🙂

Blessings,

Ann Maree

Wow. Thank you everyone for you amazing support and encouragement. I’m so glad that the segment turned out well and I’m thankful to Channel 10 and The Project for the opportunity.

Freedom2b is such an amazing organisation/charity and I’m so honoured to be a part of the work that is happening on these forums and at our chapter meetings and events. Praying that good things come for f2b as a result of the segment on The Project.

For those that are yet to see it, you can watch it advertisement-free on YouTube:

Please share with people that you think need to see it. So important to get a message out there that you can reconcile faith and sexuality and that ‘ex-gay’/conversion programs are dangerous and unethical.

Much love,

Ben

ps. so proud of my parents and of Sam. 🙂
