I was just thinking there's so many emotional associations with the idea of marriage.

davidt makes a good point here when he says:

"Will you civil union me?" doesn't sound quite the same as "Will you marry me?"

Women in particular dream of the whole white wedding thing but most don't hold those same ideals for a civil union! And why shouldn't same sex couples also be able to enact those dreams in real life if they want to?
