Hopefully the next generation is also a B, for Bullshit. People will realise that religion is a farce and is the cause of most of the misery and strife in the world.

Raskdog ,

I totally agree religion has ruined lots of things .

Iam glad my God is into relationship not religion!!!

I was serious! I’m a big fan of that Colin guy who sings kids songs, alot of those rhyme…. I’m allowed to have an immature side. Men yell at inanimate TV’s during a football game, I enjoy poetry 😆

I’ve really only had a scan of the thread so forgive me if i’m off track here.

I think that there are much more cultural influences on the church then we are often prepared to acknowledge. The different generations that are now recognized eg baby boomers, gen x gen y etc…..have very different outlooks and needs.

the current debate that rages re churches like Hillsong are probably more about cultural things than actually biblical ethics. They seek to relate to the modern culture and use the most up to date methods eg marketing.

Issues such as? I supose what I am interested in is how those issues change over time/generations and where they are headed, probably unanswerable questions but Hillsong would be one of the better places to track them.

I see churches like Hillsong as possibly the most culturally relevant.

I think its great when churches stay up to date with the times, I mean it just makes sense anyway but one hopes that it doesnt become too clicky or set up socially in a way that you have to dress or appear to be in a certain way to fit in but unfortunately I have found being involved in two mega churches that it is so in many instances, unless you dressed a certain way or had a certain look, people just didnt want to know you and it happens in the smaller ones too. Sure its good to appeal to the masses and different age groups but hopefully not at the expence of commercialising the gospel. ( i hope this sounds in the context that i am trying to say it 8) ) It kindve reminds me of what happened on the gay scene, people saw it being trendy being gay and they didnt even have a homosexual orientation, it was all front and just a passing phase to the dismay of those hoping to have found a life partner.

Maybe it has to do with originally coming from the catholic church but I have always shied away from Hillsong. It will probably get me labeled an old granny again but I kind of like ‘tradition’ in the sense that it is what my mother refers to as civilised. I like sitting in a pew and knowing that the guy next to me is not going to start waving his hands around and shouting… Probably a sterotypical and overreated idea about what Hillsong is like, I can only go off what I have seen on TV so if I’m wrong please forgive me.

I remember when I first went to an evangelical church and I was horrified that they stopped midway to have coffee… I mean how sacraligious! I got over it. I supose its just what you are used to. It’s good that we have different kinds of churches to cater to different peoples wants. The phrase “chruch shopping” is common now.
