Wow 2.5-3km I wouldn’t be able to walk that far! 1.7km I am unsure if I’d survive either. I have hip and spine problems which would make that a marathon effort for me. I would have to train for it.

I’m sure we can find a way. There will be a vehicle after all, and we’ll carry you if we have to.

That’s sweet, Mr Summit. I’m still not sure if I’d be able to get to Sydney this year. We’ll see. I have an exam two days before the march!

another thing to always consider is that we have to be in the marshalling area several hours before. As MG has to organise about 10,000 people…..and several hundred floats…there is no real negotiation on this. Once in the marshalling area and found out allocated spot in the parade…….we are free to move around a bit and have look at whats going on………but it can be a long wait. I think we are fortunate again this year in that we will be place early in the parade……..this helps

This post has been moved from the What’s on section so as to keep it with other Mardi gras topics.

For many LGBT people, taking the step of accepting their sexuality is a big one, but for those who have come from a religious background, accepting who they are often contradicts beliefs they have had all their lives. When admitting their same-sex orientation to family or friends in church, they often face rejection which causes a division to form in their lives of faith verses sexuality, and the struggle to find freedom from t……his conflict can be torturous and traumatic. If you have found this freedom and want others to know they can to…..then march with us.

In 2011, Freedom 2 b[e] (a network of people from Christian backgrounds) will celebrate those who have found freedom from damaging and outdated beliefs. Beliefs that said homosexuality was a sin, sickness or the result of a dysfunctional family upbringing. We are no longer victims of our own or others ignorance.

We invite all those who have reconciled their faith with their sexuality, or those still seeking answers, to join Freedom 2 b[e] this year in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Family members and friends are welcome to join us in support.

Marching in the Mardi Gras parade is often an empowering experience and an opportunity to put to rest the ‘demons’ of the past by publicly declaring that we are out, proud and love being who we are; lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

Our message is a positive one; celebrating our journeys to resolution and self-acceptance. By marching together we also send a positive message to people who are still locked in a prison of ignorance or self-hatred. Accepting our sexuality, coming out in a supportive environment and embracing who we are sets us free. We encourage other to Find Freedom.

To register your intention to march with us, please follow this link:

The cost to march will be approx $50 (or $30 if you are a student or on benefits). Details on how to pay will follow soon.

As part of Freedom2b[e] planning committee for this years Mardi Gras Parade. We are asking if anyone has a Ute or a small flat tray truck that we could borrow for the parade on the 5th March as part of our parade entry. If you can help please send use an email at [email protected]

Thanks so much Sewingshell, it would be great if anyone could help out, or point us to who might be the best at hiring out?
