Can you be a Christian and gay? Can a person change from gay to straight? ABC’s Hungry Beast looks at gay conversion therapies. Anthony Venn-Brown, former high profile preacher in Australia’s mega-churches, co-founder of Freedom2b and Anthony Menchetti talk about their ex-gay experience. Haydn Sennitt pastoral worker for Liberty Christian Ministries, who works with people who have ‘unwanted same sex attraction’, talks about leaving his gay life and hopefully becoming straight.

Situational heterosexual ( http://gayambassador.blogspot.com.au/2010/04/most-misunderstood-concept-in-ex-gay.html ) is a term I’ve used for several years to describe myself when people have asked how I could have been married for so many years and yet be gay. This term has also helped people gain a clearer understanding of what really happens when someone who is homosexual marries someone of the opposite sex and claims change. Confusion about what really happens in these situations still exists and often wrongly reinforces the ‘homosexuality is a choice’ and ‘homosexuals can change’ myths.

I don't understand why anyone in this day and age would want to "reject" or "change" their sexuality. Who are these organisations? And does it still happen in Australia in 2013? Maybe we should write to the local MP about banning gay conversion therapies as they are providing these services without qualifications or licence.


I think sexuality is a God given gift and it is unbiblical to reject what God has given us. I don't think it is a sin to have a gay orientation but what we should fight against is the promiscuity and the sexual additions, and this applies to both gay and straight. My understanding is that it's a bit like left handedness, and recently there was a youtube clip by beyondblue about this comparison. I dare say most Christians would agree with this?

it all depends on several things Abe.

1. Where you live geograhically

2. Your cultural background

3. The importance of family in your life.

4. and of course religion….and its place in your life.


Some people have all of these working against them
