I have just recently (2months ago) come out to my parents and some friends and told them I am a lesbian, and so has my partner. We have been together for 6months now and we are so happy. Until we came out, we had been going to church as "freinds". After we came out, I was questioned a lot about why I had still been going to church if I was a lesbian, being told that its not right and I shouldn't be doing it. I am almost 21 and I have been a Christian and been going to church for as long as I remember. My partner has just started going to church at the end of last year. We are both really missing going to curch but don't feel safe or comfortable going back to the one we were attending. Does anyone know of a church in Hamilton area in New Zealand that accepts same sex couples?

Hi Shelana

Welcome to f2b! 🙂

I googled and found the following. The following link lists gay friendly churches in NZ. St Paul's Methodist is closest to you in London Street Hamilton.

http://www.gaychurch.org/Find_a_Church/foriegn_nations/new_zealand.htm

And then there's Hamilton Gay Christians. A contact for gay Christians, interested in meeting others for friendship. Phone: (027) 417-0115

And here's a general link to a number of gay church and community services. http://waikato.webhealth.co.nz/articles/view/article/108/

Hope that's of help.

Let us know how you go.

Kind Regards,

Ann Maree

Hey Shelana 🙂

Ann Maree is right in suggesting St Paul's Methodist in Hamilton. The Minister there runs GLAM, a GLBT support network http://www.methodist.org.nz/touchstone/lead_articles/2006/may_2006/gay___lesbian_methodists so check them out if you wish, if only to receive some support and encouragement.

I'm not sure if you are aware of Rainbow Youth, but they are an organisation for GLBTI youth aged 13-27 years who provide a drug/alcohol and smoke-free environment. Pretty much like a church youth group, but without the church 😉 They have groups in Auckland and are expaning nationwide as we speak, but they will also be able to put you into contact with others in your area who may be in a similar situation. http://www.rainbowyouth.org.nz

Father God, I lift up Your precious daughters as they seek to find a welcoming home church where they can worship You and fellowship with others in Your name. LORD, You have known each of them before they were formed in their mother's womb, and You know their story and love each of them dearly. Thank You for sharing their hearts and guiding them along this path they are currently travelling, Thank You for the support and friendships they will receive, and thank You for providing for their needs along the way. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen 🙂
