Oh I think you would be surprised at how well known the fish is – used to be VERY popular for christians to put on their cars in the 80's (70s ??)

You may be too young to remember but trust me – its well known.

The point of it in ancient times was of course a SECRET sign – known only to believers at a time when being a believer was punishable by death – so it was never meant to be well known then. Thats what made it popular – it indicated a commitment to the death.

yep I am with you shadow boxer – take a look at car bumpers, you still see the fish about. And I must say the inner judge in me has a wry smile if they are speeding. (I know I know!!) Gosh, I have also remembered, Christians at my school had a fish badge they used to wear as a sign they belonged to the Christian group (back in the 80s) and at uni the name of the Christian group was "Ichthus".

I do see some businesses around who use the fish symbol – a local painter for example – but truly it's a bit naff.
