Yay Sandy! Thanks for those suggestions.

kachezva, I’m still thinking about your request for books and am racking my brains for you.. Unfortunately the 2 books I purchased some years ago are not what I’d recommend. They are so theoretical and dry that not even I could stomach them and so they remain only party read.

Perhaps check out these sites which were recommended recently by Lyfe. They may have some recommendations (or help prepare you for having children with your partner).

It would be great if others here can suggest good books. I’d like to know too!

Blessings,

I can recommend two very good books on the topic.

Bullet Proof Faith by Candace Chellew Hodge

http://www.amazon.com/Bulletproof-Faith-Spiritual-Survival-Christians/dp

and

Calling the Rainbow Nation Homeby ET Sundby.

http://www.amazon.com/Calling-Rainbow-Nation-Home-Affirmation/dp/0595336299

Both of these books are written by Christian women who are also lesbian and I found them very helpful.

Also, take a look on those Amazon pages at the books listed under “Customers who bought this book, also bought…”

There are some excellent books out there on this topic!

If you want to buy these or any other books, I recommend getting them from http://thebookdepository.co.uk as that site offers free shipping worldwide so all you’re paying is the price of the book.

While not strictly a LGBT book, I’m currently reading The Element by Dr Ken Robinson.

He talks about finding your passion in life, and cites some examples of famous people who have discovered their passion, and are now “in their element”.

He argues the need for a Paradigm Shift in our thinking … not just change, but a fundamental transformation in the way we engage with people and our world …

Very enlightening reading

Another I like is Say It Out Loud by Adam Sutton it’s not about Christianity but it’s an inspiring read about “gay struggles”.

Sandy

I just recently finished reading the revised and expanded edition of Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality: Explode the Myths, Heal the Church by Jack Rogers, published in 2009. The focus is on the debate within the PC(USA), but I think it is a helpful read for all Christians, especially the sections on biblical interpretation. This edition also includes a study guide for groups.

Bulletproof Faith is excellent, as it contains a lot of practical steps to maintain a deep level of spirituality.

Blessings to all…

I also like the chapter in “What’s so Amazing About Grace?” by Phillip Yancy that looks at homosexuality…something about ‘grace-healed eyes’ maybe…I forget. But I think it’s worth reading because it’s written by a conservative Christian who is empathic. It gives a balanced approach, I think, and sets the groundwork for understanding between the two “sides” of the debate. With so many bloody books on this topic this chapter is “different” and I like that.

You measure your success not on the presence of happiness, but on the absence of temptation, the absence of desire. It is the path of resignation. The horrible thing, the hair turning white overnight thing, is this: it doesn’t work. Resignation is only a part-time coping strategy. If you are still alive, you can only ape death for so long. Your mind can convince your body, for a time, that it feels nothing, that you desire nothing. You can do without want. You can gird your life around with barriers and scarecrows, but want will stroll past your guards and gates. It will happen when you cannot plan for it, predict it, or endure it, and once you want, once you desire, your blood surges and you are alive again. When you live in the desert, you will endlessly crave water. — Susan Smith

This partial thread has been taken from ammi’s story in the Telling Our Stories section.

I am also reading The Naked Now, by Richard Rohr, which talks about a God of grace, love and acceptance, rather than one who is exclusive and punitive.
