Hi Everyone

This is a space to recommend, discuss or write personal reviews of relevant books, DVDs, documentaries, TV programs, films, theatre, interviews and articles that are relevant to LGBT people, and especially those from faith backgrounds.

From time to time, people ask for reading material/resources to help them on their journey of reconciling their sexuality and/or faith. So now we have an easy-to-find, dedicated area for this, no longer to become lost amongst discussion threads.

I look forward to sharing and discovering new resources with you.

Blessings,

Ann Maree

Hi to everyone on the forum!

Linda and I are putting together a list of books/dvd’s that can be recommended for ‘church’ people to read or watch. As some of you may be aware we are involved in the upcoming’ A Different conversation’ in Melbourne and want to have some material available for those attending.

If you can help that would be great!

Cheers Michelle 🙂

Hi Michelle

I like the dvd of ‘For the Bible Tells Me So’.

I also like a couple of biblical articles in the resource section of this site. Keith Dyer wrote one of them. http://jmm.aaa.net.au/articles/20763.htm.

Rev Nettleton penned the other. http://laughingbird.net/supplementarysubmission.pdf

The ABC radio interview on ‘Homosexuality and Religion’ is also very good. It features 3 of the pastors from 100 revs and is on page 5 of the discussion section. Alternatively, here’s the link: http://www.freedom2b.org/topic/800

Hi again

A while ago there was a query in our discussion section about good books. Here’s the link: http://www.freedom2b.org/topic/987

There were some great suggestions put forward there.

No doubt you’ll find that helpful.

You’re welcome Michelle.

I know this is only a short clip but I like this one too. And in this age of twittering and quick online use, I think it would be worth including Bishop Gene Robinson’s thing in your list of ref’s. Some people only want to see a couple of minutes and this would suit them.

I also love Kathy Baldock’s clip. http://www.freedom2b.org/topic/983

This thread, titled ‘Good Books’, has been moved from another area in the discussion section.

Hi All. Anybody have any recommendations on what are good books to read with regards to Being gay and being christian? I want to collect a few and read as much as I can. I am someone who struggles on a daily basis with reconciling my sexuality with my faith. I want to get to a point of permanent peace, not just momentary peace – is there such thing? LOL. I just would like to know about any great reads out there for people who have gone through similar things. also, any books on marriage or having children in a gay relationship.

Thanks and blessings to all.

Hi kachezva

Have you read the articles in our resource section? There’s a link for one by Keith Dyer and another for Nathan Nettleton. Both are lengthy and theoretical, and involve looking at the scriptures as objectively as possible in re to homosexuality.. so it depends if you like that sort of thing or not.

Yep, read them and they are great! Looking for some books though – heard about Stranger at the Gate and a life of unlearning, also Bulletproof faith and Gifted by Otherness… Anybody read these?

LOL – I’ve read A Life of Unlearning abount eight hundred times (okay well maybe not that many but it feels like it) and strongly recommend it. http://www.anthonyvennbrown.com

Another I like is Say It Out Loud by Adam Sutton it’s not about Christianity but it’s an inspiring read about “gay struggles”.

Your mind can convince your body, for a time, that it feels nothing, that you desire nothing. You can do without want. You can gird your life around with barriers and scarecrows, but want will stroll past your guards and gates.
